“Can I push the ball?” “Have you surfed it yet?” “That’s no surf board, that’s a bowling pin!” Comments from the Culver City Art Walk 2009 regarding the 10’ bowling pin and 4’ bowling ball entitled If Slater Bowled.

Seeing is Forgetting is a “mix and match” photographic study of the original artwork If Slater Bowled which was on view during the Culver City Artwalk 2009. The bowling pin’s iconic shape despite obvious scale manipulation and even when used as a surfboard is difficult to overcome. Based on the title to Robert Irwin’s biography and the Paul Valery quote “ Seeing is forgetting the name of the thing that one sees” the photographs break down the icon, developing discrete views which expose the shape of the pin in all it’s inherent sexuality.

This iPhone application incorporates these images and allows you to reconfigure the pin by scrolling into more than 1,000 variations. Wright worked with Application Designer, Benjamin Sussman to develop a way for art to be accessible.
